Earlier today TechCrunch reported that the always rumoured GPhone might actually be real as a result of some comments made by Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. TechCrunch writes...
"...today Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergei Brin and CEO Eric Schmidt made nebulous statements that are leaving us wondering if Google is now thinking of building that gPhone: “The trio of Google execs also used the opportunity to talk about the inroads the company is making with its own branded mobile phone as a replacement for the iPhone.”"
The important thing to remember is that these were direct quotes, only a summary by the reporter, Dan Cox. Still it's promising...and according to TechCrunch there are further indications that the GPhone might be a reality...
"we’ve been tracking a story recently that San Francisco based Ammunition Design Group, which has designed computers, mobile phones, hardware, and other devices for companies like Palm, Hewlett-Packard, Dell Computer, and Logitech, may be working with Google to create an Android-based, Google branded Gphone...This all may be nothing, but we’ve got a good source swearing that Ammunition Group is designing the Gphone and that it is a seriously beautiful device."
I find it hard to believe that even a GPhone could rival the iPhone. I've read plenty of posts this weekend talking about how amazing the new 3G iPhone is, that the Blackberry is dead and no doubt we'll all be using iPhones in a few years just like we (pretty much) all use iPods. It certainly is the first phone to combine an mp3 player that people will actually use.
So could the GPhone beat Apple? Will it drive a wedge between two companies that recently seem like they are both working together on just about everything? Will the Google-Apple love affair be over? Or is all this just vapourware?

i don't think Gphone can beat apple..
